Department of Geography Facilities and Resources
Computer Lab Facilities
The Department maintains three high performance computing labs each with 24 seats. These labs are located on the 3rd (ES307) and 4th (ES407 & ES415) floors of the Earth Science building and are primarily used for lab and lecture instruction for GIS, Remote Sensing, Cartography, Hydrology, Landscape Ecology, and Spatial Statistics. The ES415 computer lab has a special designation as the 'MGIS Computing Lab' and is for use by students enrolled in the Masters of GIS program. The ES407 computer lab is designated as a Centre of Excellence in Object Oriented Image Analysis
Geography Collections Room
The Department maintains a Collections Room on the 4th floor of the Earth Sciences Bldg (ES-457). Here we house our large collection of atlases, air photos, topographic maps of Alberta and Canada (NTS), and other maps from around the world, as well as geographical reference and course materials.
Gallagher Library of Geology
The department also contributes space and materials to the Gallagher Library of Geology, located on the main floor of the Earth Sciences Building, in oder to enhance the access to research materials by faculty and students alike.
MADGIC Desk (Maps, Academic Data, Geographic Information Centre)
MADGIC is the Library centre for academic data, and for maps, airphotos and other geographic information. It provides access to approximately 200,000 map sheets and over 1 million aerial photographs. We also have a small collection of reference atlases.
University Weather Station
One of the most important services provided by the department is the servicing and maintenance of The University Weather Station housed in a separate building located on the west side of the campus.

Need help with your job search? David Cataford is the Career Advisor for the Faculty of Social Sciences and helps students and recent alumni with their career planning and development.
